Let’s talk about the actual physical ways you can get people to subscribe to your email list, and how to get them to really WANT to sign up for your list. This is the big question. And it’s a very important question.
First off, you must have something to offer. There must be a reason why people should be on your email list, or they won’t sign up and if they do sign up they won’t stay.
What are you offering, what are you selling, what are the people who you are seeking as an audience looking for?
Are they trying to save money? make money? get tips on something? travel somewhere? buy something? gain understanding? This is the question that you will need to answer.
Once you know the exact answer to this question, then your job is simple. You provide what they are looking for.
Luckily, for most subjects, there will not be a one-size-fits-all, once-asked once-answered answer. The gaining of answers is always an evolution.
In most cases on the Internet what you will be offering is knowledge about something. You will be the person who knows more than your subscriber on a subject and you will be giving them that knowledge in installments or all at once.
Some people and businesses like to give away an ebook or a white paper on the subject.
Some people and businesses give out steady streams of valuable information and don’t necessarily need to give away anything extra to entice readers to sign up. They just say “get on my email list and you’ll get instant notification every time I release something new.”
Many companies with a physical product will give away a coupon in order to get people to sign up for their list.
Some people give away a promise – this is common for big Internet Marketing launches. They direct people to a squeeze page with an enticing video that gives away some good tips and then they say “This product will be released on Friday and only 1000 copies will be sold, sign up now to be one of the first to know about it.”
If the information is good enough, you can bet that many people will sign up to know more about it.
And then, once the product is released do you think the list owner throws those email addresses away? Oh no, he or she saves them and markets something else to the subscribers at some point.
So start thinking about it now. What can you offer your audience? What do they most want to know and what will they give their precious email address to have?
Once you know what you have to give away that they just must have, then you want to get your subscriber form that signs them up for your email list and put it somewhere.
Putting it on a webpage within a website that gets organic traffic from the search engines is a wonderful place to put it.
Once you have it on a webpage you can direct people to it from twitter, facebook, article directories, revenue sharing sites, forums, and other websites. You can put a link to your form and your promise in other webmasters newsletters.
The more people you can get to see your email list and your offer, the more people you can get to sign up for it. The more interested people who have signed up for your email list, the more potential you have to make a sustainable income from it. Start building your email list today!
