You hear it all the time in email marketing that ‘the money is in your list,’ but when you are new you probably don’t fully understand exactly why you need an email mailing list.
In short, an email mailing list is power and a list is money!
When you have a decent sized mailing list you can send out an email to your subscribers telling them about a product or service and generate instant sales.
You’ve probably also heard people going on about how they can make money ‘while they sleep?’ The reason that they are able to do this is because they have an email mailing list. All you need is an autoresponder sequence – a series of emails which you can schedule to be sent automatically after people sign up to your list.
Some people may disagree but in my opinion having an email mailing list is the single most valuable asset of any online business.
A couple of things to mention here:
One thing to remember is that mailing lists are not all equal! If you want to see decent results from a mailing to your list you must have quality, targeted subscribers. By that I mean they need to be interested in the products you are offering (there’s probably not much point in offering a gardening ebook to a list of subscribers who are primarily interested in weight loss for example) and you also need to have a strong relationship with your subscribers. They need to trust you, relate to what you stand for and be assured of the fact that you offer quality products.
How important is outright email mailing list size?
Well it’s certainly a factor but the number of subscribers you have is not the be all and end all. I have seen cases where a marketer has sold more copies of a product by mailing a list of 2,000 people than another marketer who has 10,000 people. That’s what I mean about the importance of making sure that you have an excellent relationship with your email mailing list subscribers and that they are highly targeted in the first place.
